Typical costs: simple examination £20–£80, doctor's visit at a private hospital £50–£150, medication £10–£100, blood tests or diagnostics £50–£300. For simple cases, this is affordable – with multiple treatments, it quickly becomes expensive.

What happens without insurance?

Without insurance, you pay for everything yourself. Many clinics demand immediate payment before you receive medication or further treatment. This is standard, especially in private hospitals. For more complicated cases, the costs quickly add up.

Typical situation for tourists

You're unwell, have a fever or stomach problems. You go to a clinic, get an examination, an infusion and medication. In the end, you quickly pay €150–400. If you need to come back or require additional tests, it will be significantly more.

Does German health insurance pay?

As a rule, no. Statutory health insurance from Germany does not cover Thailand. Without additional coverage, you'll be left to bear all the costs – whether for a doctor's visit or treatment.
